Kris,

You would just have to meet my husband! He doesn't really notice those kinds of things. He is just glad to have clean clothes, even if they remain heaped in the dryer for a week.

Molly,

I totally know the conflict you describe. Right now I am having more trouble starting to write than pulling myself away for it. Poetry Wednesday is helping break the ice!

But I do find that chores around the house offer me a sense of rest from the intensity of writing. There is just nothing intense about folding. Do you find that lots of ideas come when you aren't even at your computer? I have flashes of inspiration when loading the dishwasher or sweeping the floor. It's as if these projects help my mind to relax enough to receive.

And Beth,

I totally can picture you up folding by yourself with coffee with the family sleeps. It is very comforting, isn't it? I always feel calmer after folding laundry...

Tawnya,

What a true friend you are, noticing and pointing out that the bed is made. That is part of the ritual. I must make the bed before I pile the laundry on. It feels like a clean slate. The bed does not get made everyday, and sometimes we go for weeks with unmade beds as well. I am comforted by your confession. I seem to remember an always immaculate Provenzano home!

the trick is to wait until your husband is exasperated enough to fold the laundry himself.

I think you should be proud that at least the bed under the laundry is made! I think we are going on a solid month of unmade beds at my house. "I'll always have plenty to do."

I am happy you are doing poetry wednesdays.

Oh me too about folding the laundry. And yesterday I had this lovely moment of sitting in my living room, drinking coffee, watching the new day begin, and folding laundry in complete silence while the rest of the family slept.
Unfortunately, I still have a chair full of clothes which have been there for a couple weeks.

Ahhh, just lovely. That poem and your reflection are so perfect for me today as I am in the all-consuming throes of a writing project, one I want to finish so badly by ignoring everything and everyone around me. And yet there are pigtails to braid; there is a dishwasher to unload and, yes, laundry to fold, so I stop. "I like that it is possible to still love this way..." Thank you, thank you for that reminder!!

That's a great photo! Even your laundry- strewn bed looks peaceful.
