I think I jumped a little, right in my chair, with startled delight. It was so indescribably sweet to hear the name Walter again, to know that Walter has made a fresh entrance into this world.

Neighbors

Neighbors

A neighbor was driving up our hill when she smelled a horrible acrid smell. Then, she saw smoke snaking out of her hood. She pulled over beside the pasture and jumped out just before the car exploded. It was like sometime from the Dukes of Hazard, only it actually happened on our little road.

Friendly

The friendly way to explain the missing punch bowl
Is to assume you loaned it to someone
Who, by the time he thought of returning it,
Had lost his job and moved to another city
And loaned it to the hostess of a charity ball
Who forgot the person she borrowed it from.

The Garden

The Garden

As my attentiveness to the garden grows, I am discovering that this focus on beauty, on the potentiality and fragility and strength of life is helping me to relax. When I am stressed, an hour in the garden pulls me out of myself. It is exactly what I need, just now, to live more deeply into the present.
